The 62nd annual report on the Export of Objects of Cultural Interest has been published. Between 1 May 2015 and 30 April 2016, 25 cases were considered by the Reviewing Committee. 21 were deferred by the Secretary of State following the recommendation of the Committee. Nine items were bought by public institutions. The export deferred items included the steel and silver dagger presented to Colonel T E Lawrence after his victory at Aqaba, the archive of John Logie Baird and the watercolour of Nonsuch Palace by Joris Hoefnagel. This Culture Minister Matt Hancock recently placed a temporary export bar on a George III mahogany wheel barometer to provide an opportunity to keep it in the country. |
