Planning Applications in England: April to June 2017

DCLG has published statistics on planning applications in England between April and June 2017.

These reveal that district level planning authorities in England:

  • received 123,300 applications for planning permission, down 5% on the corresponding quarter of 2016;
  • granted 98,700 decisions, down 2% from the same quarter in 2016; this is equivalent to 88% of decisions, unchanged on the same quarter of 2016; and
  • received 11,000 applications for prior approval for permitted development rights, down 8% from the same quarter of 2016. Of these, 1,400 applications were for changes to residential use, of which 1,000 were approved without having to go through the full planning process.
