Lead the heritage sector response to delivering vocational skills and career development opportunities focussing on apprenticeships. You will join our Capacity Building team, who coordinate a number of services and support structures for knowledge and skills development across the heritage sector. In this complex field, you will bring your breadth of experience to play an influential role in delivering tangible outcomes for the heritage workforce.

In response to the recent technical education reforms and the development of vocational skills to meet sector skills gaps, you will have a key role in achieving the changes required in the heritage sector. Reporting to and supported by the Head of Capacity Building, you will oversee a network of organisations to develop and integrate new apprenticeships in to the sector as part of the Trailblazer initiative. This is about making it work in practice – making sure the sector is ready for delivery and organisations are ready to recruit, so you will need to be an effective problem solver. You will also be commissioning and interrogating labour market intelligence on the heritage workforce to ensure resources are being used strategically, supporting initiatives that focus on addressing skills gaps and shortages where they are most needed.

You will have a broad range of experience to draw upon, whether you are currently working in an advisory capacity or are involved in training provision within a similar role in a large charitable, non-profit, or commercial organisation. You will have solid relationship building skills, with the resilience and tenacity to work with a complex range of stakeholders. With a high attention to detail, you will be able to demonstrate strong planning skills across multiple project streams and working groups to enable you to deliver this programme of change.

You will most likely be based at our Grade II listed Swindon office, but other office locations could be considered as you will have regular need to travel to other locations including London. We pride ourselves on having a strong emphasis on staff training and skills development, therefore you will receive the support and development to enable you to achieve your goals. We also offer a wide benefits package including a competitive pension scheme, 28 days holiday, corporate discounts, free entry into English Heritage sites as well as the flexibility in your working day that creates a strong work-life balance.

Applications close on the 28th of May, and we plan to hold interviews for this role on the 5th of June at our Swindon Office.
