The Weald & Downland Living Museum: Museum Director

Editor News

We are an award-winning Living Museum located in 40 acres of the South Downs National Park. Our Collection comprises 50+ historic buildings, gardens and an artefact collection that bring to life rural homes, farmsteads, and industries of the 13th to 19th centuries. We attract 150,000 visitors annually with exciting events and a programme of learning opportunities. Our stunning Gateway entrance galleries and waterside café were opened last Spring.

We are looking for a Museum Director to lead our next chapter. The focus will be on safeguarding the heritage of the Museum whilst realising its income potential; utilising the opportunities presented by Gateway and raising our profile.

As Museum Director and our Chief Executive, you will need the drive, empathy and inspirational qualities to align the 60 staff and 400+ volunteers in continuing to provide a world-class visitor experience, learning opportunities and the pursuit of scholarship. The role will suit an experienced, collaborative and energetic leader with exceptional interpersonal skills and gravitas, as well as commercial acumen and innovative strategic thinking. A passion for the heritage sector and an appreciation of vernacular architecture are essential; related experience is desirable.
