New DCMS Secretary of State and Housing Minister among reshuffle changes

The new DCMS Secretary of State is Jeremy Wright QC, who has been the Attorney General for the last four years. Since 2005 he’s been MP for Kenilworth and Southam in the West Midlands. It was encouraging to see his statement about his appointment prominently reference heritage:

“Very excited to be starting a new job this morning as Secretary of State at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, a department whose work has a huge impact on our heritage, the things we enjoy now and on our national future.”

He also sports a picture of Kenilworth Castle on his Constituency Homepage. Talking about his constituency he notes that ‘the area has a rich history, with many historic houses, including four National Trust properties- Baddesley Clinton, Packwood, Upton and Farnborough; the nationally-acclaimed art gallery at Compton Verney, beautiful old churches and pubs and, of course, Kenilworth Castle, all of which make it a popular destination for tourists and day trippers and a desirable area to live’.

The new Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union is Dominic Raab who moves from MHCLG and the Housing Portfolio. New Housing Minister is former deputy mayor of London Kit Malthouse. He is a former chartered accountant and former junior minister at DWP.
