The Association for Consultancy and Engineering’s has published a new research report, ‘Unlocking Housing: Invigorating local communities through placemaking’, which argues that only a radical change in approach will ensure we’re able to tackle the housing crisis.

It states that ‘improved community support is the key to unlocking the development that is needed to solve the housing crisis’ and that ‘we need to start with the community and their needs before we begin to look at individual development projects.’ The report therefore calls for placemaking principles to be applied across Government and a new Property Sales Levy to replace the existing Community Infrastructure Levy which, transferred to local authorities, could be worth £62 billion in long term bonds.
