Information Commissioner’s Office’s Report shows record Charity fines

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has released its annual report for 2017/18, which shows a record number of civil monetary penalties for that year.

The report detailed that UK Charities received 11 fines, totalling £138,000 to UK charities for unlawfully processing personal data between April 2017-March 2018.

These fines were issued under the Data Protection Act (DPA) 1998 rather than the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018, so the figure would have been higher if these breaches had occurred in the coming year.
