Historic Battlefields debated in Parliament

Speaking in the Commons on 12th September Chris Skidmore, Vice-Chair of the Conservative Party, lamented the lack of protection for historic battlefields. He stated that it was bizarre “we are now about to tarmac over part of the battle of Bosworth” especially considering the amount of money generated by the digging up of Richard III, some £40 million.
The debate featured various issues with archaeology being especially contentious. As Skidmore argues, once a site has been built upon the ability to access archaeological evidence is lost.
