English Heritage launches the Once & Future Fund

Editor News

On October 10, English Heritage [Alliance member] marked an event at Wellington Arch to promote the Once & Future Fund, a fundraising effort to build and invest a £2 million endowment, to help conserve and revitalise those more than 300 places in English Heritage’s collection which are free for the public to access.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund’s (HLF) Heritage Endowments programme, the project aims to build £1 million from philanthropic donations, allowing English Heritage to access a potential £1 million match funding towards building the endowment fund.

The Once & Future Fund is seeking to help care for those sites for which English Heritage does not charge an entry fee, with the charity reminding potential supporters that free to enter doesn’t mean free to maintain. English Heritage has until August 2021 to raise its £1m target.
