A report by the Institute for Fiscal Studies has claimed that creative arts degrees, including drama and music, cost the taxpayer 30% more than engineering degrees. Taxpayers provide more to the 37, 000 students who study these courses in England each year because they typically earn less than other degrees after graduation and therefore pay back less of their loans. The report shows that the Government is likely to write off approximately 75% of the loans allocated to students studying creative arts degrees.
