Stained Glass Windows. Averting Environmental Deterioration

Editor News

This new document produced by Historic England is intended to provide guidance for the owners and managers of buildings with stained glass and other decorative windows. It explains how to work with professional conservation advisors to recognise deterioration caused by environmental problems, interpret the underlying causes, and undertake remedial action (including installing environmental protective glazing).

The draft has been released to coincide with Historic England’s stained glass conference on 27 March, at which their research into environmental protective glazing was presented, and the associated Research Report was launched.

Please send comments or advice on the draft guidance to conservation@HistoricEngland.org.uk by 1 May 2019.
