Heritage Training Placements 2019 – Historic England

Editor News

Fancy working in a palace or a castle, looking after precious artefacts or finding ways to get people excited about their local history?

Historic England is now accepting applications for its Heritage Training Placements for 2019. These 8-week summer training placements are a brilliant introduction to some of the skills and experience young people will need for a career in heritage. There are a whole variety of roles on offer from collections care to visitor operations, from marketing and PR to graphic design.

These placements are offered to people with BAME heritage, as they form part of Historic England’s strategy to make sure the heritage workforce properly represents the UK population. In 2017-2018 only 4.4% of the Historic England work force described their ethnicity as Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic, set against the UK average of 14% (according to the 2011 census.)

The placements programme is managed and coordinated by Historic England, but placements are offered at a range of heritage sector organisations.
