The Diocese of Ely is seeking to appoint a full-time apprentice Church Buildings Advice Assistant to work with the Diocese’s historic churches in Cambridgeshire and West Norfolk. The successful candidate will work with an established and expert team of historic environment advisers, supporting the inspection, repair and development of 330 church buildings, 83% of which are listed Grade I or II*.
This role is office based but outward facing, supporting the volunteers in the field who directly manage church buildings, as well as working alongside acknowledged experts and professionals involved in church conservation. The apprentice will learn on the job four days a week, with one day reserved for formal training in historic buildings conservation at the Building Crafts College in Stratford, East London. On successful completion of the apprenticeship and subject to continued employment at the Ely Diocesan Board of Finance, the apprentice will be given the opportunity to study for a third year towards a BSc (level 6) in Historic Buildings Conservation.
