Society Lottery Sales Limit Raised

Editor News

The Government will raise the annual sales limit for society lotteries (those that are non-commercial and run for good causes) from £10 million to £50 million in the first revision of the limits of society lotteries for a decade. This is less than the £100 million that was expected following recommendations by DCMS in 2018. However, this move poses a risk to the National Lottery and its good causes, which have been so transformative for heritage.

Other announcements made by Minister Mims Davies include:

  • An increase in the limit for prizes in society lotteries, from £400,000 to £500,000;
  • Plans for a consultation to tighten the age limit for scratch-cards and online games;
  • The Gambling Commission’s intention to consult on measures to tighten the licensing framework for society lotteries.
