National Historic Ships UK [Affiliate Alliance Member] are looking for an individual who is passionate about seeking a career in the maritime heritage sector to be part of this unique project. This trainee placement is offering an opportunity to learn and develop the necessary skills for the maintenance, preservation and presentation of Cutty Sark.
Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund [Affiliate Alliance Member] and in partnership with eight host organisations, this programme is ideal for someone aiming for a career in maritime heritage, museum shipkeeping and conservation.
Based in Greenwich London, the trainee will work within the shipkeeping department to learn traditional maintenance skills including use of specialist tools, materials, and techniques. There will be extensive opportunities to gain hands on experience and knowledge as an integral member of the small team.
They welcome applications from people of all social backgrounds and particularly those aged 18-30 as these groups are currently under-represented within the historic ships and heritage sector. Candidates from outside this age range will still be considered.
Applications are open for the Cutty Sark, Royal Museums Greenwich trainee placement only. All other SHTP 2 trainee placements have been filled. Please note, if you have previously applied for an SHTP 2 traineeship your application cannot be considered.
No experience is necessary: just good communication skills, a flexible approach, willingness to learn and the ability to work as part of a team. Above all, you must have interest in a long-term career in the historic vessel sector. If this sounds like you, visit their website for more information and to apply, or please contact them at shtp@nationalhistoricships.org.uk.
