Deepika Kanthavara Madhava

Deepika is an architectural designer at London Design Office and serves as the program lead for the Somer’s Town Community Association, working at the grassroots level to address local community needs. In an effort to give back to her birthplace, she has worked with the team on-ground to initiate Mangalore Heritage Group and continues to lead the research to discover and communicate the heritage and history of the South Western Coast of India. She holds a Bachelor in Architecture from Manipal University, India.

Her dedication to heritage and history led her to pursue a Master's Degree in Architecture and Historic Urban Environments at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. Prior to moving to the UK to pursue a Masters, Deepika founded Pinwheel Projects, an architectural design studio that explores the interplay between spaces, people, memories, and cultural heritage. This studio also includes a product design vertical for bespoke handmade and eco-friendly event stationery, inspired by her explorations of Bangalore's historical environment.

In addition to her design practice, Deepika has taught architectural design and thesis modules as an assistant professor at BGS School of Architecture in Bangalore, India. She is also a certified yoga teacher and a visual storyteller with a deep interest in stories, crafts, and arts from the past.

Her research interests are in critically examining historic environments to uncover spatial, social, environmental, and gender injustices, aiming to address contemporary issues for a more equitable future.
