Apprenticeships #HeritageChat summary

Editor News

The October #HeritageChat was on the theme of Apprenticeships in the Historic Environment sector. The discussion covered a number of topics, including how Apprenticeships can help the sector, the areas of the sector in which they might be most effective and what the main issues are that heritage organisations face when recruiting apprentices. One such issue that was identified by participants are the assumptions that people hold about Apprenticeships, and it was noted that the sector needs to better communicate that Apprenticeships are an option for people from various occupations and at different stages of their career. Participants in the chat also shared practical advice and resources on how to start an Apprenticeship scheme under the new government guidelines, and highlighted examples of good Apprenticeship initiatives. You can read a more detailed summary of the chat here.

Many thanks to the Historic Environment Trailblazer consortium, particularly Jenni Butterworth of @drakonheritage for leading this chat.
