The Church Buildings Officer as the Secretary of the Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches (DAC) has a key role to play in supporting a wide range of people, in both many voluntary and some remunerated roles, in their work in maintaining and adapting church buildings across the 167 parishes of the diocese.
Although there is a need to be empathetic to the care and conservation of church buildings, the role does not in itself require specific expertise in buildings but rather skill in leadership, administration and management. This calls for well-developed inter-personal skills particularly attuned to dealing with parish representatives and their professional advisers.
