The Confidence and Supply Agreement between the Conservative and Unionist Party and the Democratic Unionist Party has been published.
This states that ‘a detailed consultative report will be commissioned into the impact of VAT and Air Passenger Duty (APD) on tourism on Northern Ireland to recommend how best to build upon the growing success of that sector’. This could help support an argument for making positive changes for heritage tourism in England.
The Scottish Parliament recently voted to replace APD with a new devolved Air Departure Tax (ADT) in Scotland from April next year. The Scottish government wants to cut the new tax by 50%, before eventually scrapping it completely. It argues the move will boost the economy by increasing the number of flights to and from the country.
