DCMS Sectors Economic Estimates Assessment Report published

Earlier in the year, the Office for Statistics Regulation consulted on DCMS Sectors Economic Estimates. It has now published an Assessment Report of these statistics. Subject to the completion of the six requirements explained in the report, they will award these statistics National Statistics status – meaning that they meet the high standards of Trustworthiness, Quality and Value set out in the Code of Practice for Statistics

The key findings note that DCMS could go further to meet their needs by exploring ways to provide socio-economic breakdowns for their smallest sub-sectors. This would certainly improve the statistics for the heritage sector.

The report also notes that international industrial classifications do not describe many parts of the modern UK economy very well, including significant parts covered by DCMS. DCMS could improve the usefulness of the statistics by carrying out a full review of consistency and comparability of the sector and sub-sector definitions and refresh the definitions as appropriate.
