Dementia-friendly heritage guide launched

Alzheimer’s Society and Historic Royal Palaces [Alliance member] are launching a dementia-friendly heritage guide, entitled ‘Rethinking Heritage: A guide to help make your site more dementia-friendly.’

One in three people in England and Wales know someone who is living with dementia. The Prime Minister’s Challenge on Dementia 2020 aims to support people with dementia to live well in their community and enable them to continue doing the everyday things they enjoy, for example keeping fit, going to the cinema or visiting historical sites.

The impact of dementia is something that the heritage sector cannot ignore. We need your support and understanding to help people with dementia to continue to visit heritage sites in their area and be an active part of their community.

At the launch on 22 November find out about best practice from heritage organisations and gain insight of the experiences of one of Alzheimer’s Society’s ambassadors who is living with dementia. You’ll learn about our new resource for the heritage sector, which will be available to help you and your organisation. You can also take part in one of the sensory experience sessions run by Hampton Court Palace for people with dementia. A second launch event takes place at Beamish Museum on Wednesday 6 December.
