The Edward James Foundation is a charitable educational trust located on the 6,400 acre West Dean Estate in beautiful West Sussex countryside near Chichester, specialising in creative and applied arts.  As well as being a respected educational institution, the historic house and collections, the stunning grounds and gardens open to the public, and the year-round events and exhibitions make West Dean truly unique.

We are seeking to appoint a Collections Manager to manage the conservation, development and promotion of our collection.  The collection at West Dean was accumulated by our Founder Edward James and contains internationally renowned art works, an extensive range of artefacts and furniture collected by the James family. This role will oversee all aspects of curatorial and research activities associated with the collection and will be central in broadening its engagement both inside and outside of the College in particular as an educational and research resource.

The ideal candidate will have had extensive experience working with and managing historic collections within a museum, arts, education or similar institution.  As well as an established professional in their field, we are looking for someone with practical knowledge of collections management, including knowledge and experience of working with recognised standards and an excellent understanding of conservation and preservation issues.  In addition proven experience of developing and implementing collection plans are also essential, as well as demonstrable experience of managing staff, resources and projects.
