First Memorial Unveiled at St Pancras International to Mark WW1 Centenary

We were honoured to join the Railway Heritage Trust and Historic England at the unveiling of the memorial at St Pancras International last Thursday. This is the first memorial in the station and reflects on the vital role of railways in both world wars.

This is one of many events in the heritage calendar across the UK to commemorate the 100th year after the end of the First World War. Historic England for example have made the centenary the focus of recent publications and have called for help to research and record the story of the First World War.

The centenary has also been the subject of recent films and projects, such as Peter Jackson’s ‘They Shall Not Grow Old‘ and Director Danny Boyle’s project ‘Pages of the Sea‘ involving sand portraits of WW1 casualties on Britain’s beaches and has been the source of recent funding from the HLF as part of a special grant programme for community projects.

We have also come across a fantastic project: A Street Near You, which allows you to explore the legacy of the First World War in your local area.
