Government to consult on making fracking permitted development

The Government has announced measures to ensure decisions on allowing are ‘made in a timely way and developers and local authorities are supported through the process’. The Government intends to consult on:

  • whether the early stages of shale exploration should be treated as permitted development, and the circumstances in which this might be appropriate; and
  • the criteria required to trigger the inclusion of shale production projects into the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects regime
