Members of the Heritage Alliance’s Rural Heritage Advocacy Group (RHAG), alongside members of DCMS, met with DEFRA to discuss concerns about the exclusion of heritage from the remit of the draft Environment Bill, as outlined in our paper Delivering the 25-Year Environment Plan for the historic and natural environments: The Environment Bill.
Following RHAG’s continuous efforts to engage successfully with DEFRA’s Environment policy teams, all interested parties were finally able to meet and address the concerns expressed by RHAG over the wording of certain clauses of the draft Environment Bill, explicitly excluding built heritage from its proposals. The Heritage Alliance asked also for more representation of the heritage sector in DEFRA’s stakeholder engagement groups, so that the Alliance members will be able to have a louder voice in those discussions.
