Our CEO, Lizzie Glithero-West, and Chairman, Loyd Grossman, were present alongside other sector leaders at a round table breakfast briefing with the new Heritage Minister, Michael Ellis.
The Minister’s previous role was as deputy leader of the House of Commons where he was involved in plans for the renewal of the Houses of Parliament. He said his current job was the one he would have asked for. He articulated that he is keen to be our champion throughout Government and noted that he is very aware of the value of the heritage sector as well as our concerns around Brexit, the future of the NPPF etc. The Minister was also interested in how we might further promote our world-leading heritage expertise internationally.
Lizzie led discussion on issues relating to Brexit set out in our Brexit Briefing and Loyd discussed the challenges of looking after heritage assets that underpin our tourism industry and the growing maintenance backlog.
