The £30m Cultural Protection Fund set up by DCMS and managed by the British Council celebrates its first full year with 19 projects in countries affected by conflict, to rebuild, restore and protect their heritage.
The latest round of grants is announced with major awards going to Alliance member World Monuments Fund in Britain and in Scotland to Edinburgh World Heritage Trust. Other project partnerships include SOAS, University of Liverpool and the Institute for Digital Archaeology. Find out more.
We are pleased to announce that since February Kate Pugh, lately Chief Exec of The Heritage Alliance, has taken the role of Chairman of the Fund’s Advisory Board. The Advisory Board made up senior heritage figures in the UK and others drawn from Europe and the Middle East advises the British Council on the strategy and operation of the Fund. Kate said ‘After championing the benefits of heritage in national and European contexts, I’m delighted to be supporting these troubled countries in the Middle East and North Africa through their cultural heritage’.
