Richmond House Set to be Largely Demolished Under Government Plans

Editor News

Richmond House, the Grade II* listed masterpiece, designed by Sir William Whitfield, is set to be largely demolished due to government plans to build a temporary House of Commons while the Palace of Westminster is closed for seven-year refurbishment. Only the entrance front in Whitehall would be left standing. This comes after the Joint Committee of the Houses of Parliament realised the temporary chamber would not fit neatly into one of the courtyards at Richmond House, contrary to the original assessment  based on mistaken measurements.
