Scottish Redundant Churches Trust: 2 consultants

Editor News

Supported by a grant from Cairngorms LEADER programme, the Scottish Redundant Churches Trust (SRCT) is seeking to appoint two consultants to assist in the development of the SRCT’s project to regenerate the Category A-listed St Margaret’s Church, Braemar. In partnership with the community-based St Margaret’s Trust, the project will create a cultural heritage and performance venue at the heart of the Cairngorms National Park through the conservation of Sir J Ninian Comper’s ‘Scottish masterpiece’.

The consultants will work independently, but are expected to collaborate in the delivery of engagement activities for and with the local community and visitors. These will take place over a 12 month period between January and December 2019.

Appointment is by tender.

Heritage Engagement Officer. The consultant will have a high degree of heritage experience and a track record of coordinating and delivering community engagement activities. Strong organisational and communication skills are required, together with experience of working with a range of partners, stakeholders and demographic groups, and of recruiting and coordinating volunteers. An understanding of working in rural areas is also required. Activities will take place principally in Braemar, and some evening and weekend working is anticipated. The role is estimated to require 1.5 days per week but with seasonal variation.

Conservation Plan Author. The consultant will have extensive expertise in the production of conservation plans for buildings of national significance. They will also be familiar with church design and the ecclesiology of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and with the principal architects and designers at work on ecclesiastical commissions at this time. An understanding and appreciation of the work of Ninian Comper would be considered an advantage. The consultant will be expected to share learning through engagement activities.

For further information please email SRCT Director, Victoria Collison-Owen, by Friday 7 December stating the role in which you are interested in the subject heading.
