THA meeting with Michael Gove

Loyd Grossman and our CEO, Lizzie Glithero- West, had a positive meeting with Environment Secretary Michael Gove last week, where we discussed items from our Heritage Manifesto, Brexit Briefing Paper and Rural Heritage Under Threat: Looking After Our Landscapes Post-Brexit.

We agreed with his previous comments that public money should go to public goods; heritage being absolutely one of these. Not only is heritage popular but land managers want to do more to protect it. It’s a huge part of what the public values as our environment and integral to creating the beauty of places such as the English Lakes.

We discussed the real opportunity to design a better agri-environment system that better serves heritage, removes the artificial divide between the natural and historic and demonstrates world leadership in this area. We were encouraged to hear him describe heritage as the glue which binds together our brand Britain.
