The English Civic Museums Network published a ‘Think Piece’ on ‘The Future of Civic Museums’. They noted that civic museums could play a vital role as a ‘catalyst’ for bringing about ‘a new enlightenment’ to strengthen ties across communities in a world focused on the individual. They have made five recommendations as to how civic museums can become these ‘catalysts’: agree a collective purpose; agree a simple performance metric; agree a collective research framework; remodel philanthropy; move to flexible governance. They have also made recommendations on the funding crisis and addressing capability and capacity issues.
