The Canal and River Trust [Alliance Member] have begun work to plan the repair and restoration of Toddbrook Reservoir. This comes after the Reservoir had to have its water levels significantly reduced to prevent the dam from collapsing. The organisation hopes to begin investigations into the causes of the damage to the reservoir spillway whilst investigations are underway residents in the nearby area have been evacuated. Businesses in the Derbyshire town have also been told that they can claim up to £100,000 to cover uninsurable costs as part of the £5.25 million in relief for flood affected communities. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government said that it had activated the Bellwin scheme to reimburse local authorities for the immediate costs in spent in responding to the floods. The ministry will also be providing £150,000 to High Peak Borough Council “to support their initiatives to help the recovery of the local economy” in Derbyshire. The reservoir is closed to the public for the foreseeable future as investigations continue.
